Searchlight Nevada is where my Grandfather Raymond Anderson (ekyp) lived as a youth. Raymond was a strong leader and enrolled member of the Moapa Band of Paiutes. When I visit Avi Kwame I am reminded of these lands that he grew up in. Spring in this desert is filled with color. The cacti and desert medicines are their brightest greens, while flowers in purples, fuchsias and bright yellows pop amongst the muted sand tones. This visual is a gift, a gift from the Creator and a reminder of my ancestors. This cultural landscape is represented in distorted bird's view, ribbons of abstracted desert flowers.
