I continue the traditional practice of foraging in my Southern Paiute homelands, I gained objects to manipulate and bend into basket form. Is this not traditional? To gather from my lands, and create? I harvested conduit wire from the construction of the Nuwu Art + Activism Studios during the COVID pandemic, when the buildings were renovated. The act of weaving this smallest work of the collection brought me happiness, especially when I compare it to holding my ancestors basket in my hands. This basket is smaller, tighter, and the most detailed out of the collection. Like holding this basket, I also hold the power to choose my destiny, to assure our stories in the form of this vessel continue seven generations ahead.
