Sol K. Martinez is a student and artist who has proud lineage with the Southern Paiute, Cheyenne, Pawnee, Muscogee (Creek) and has roots from Durango, Mexico. She is currently in the Music Education program at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), where she is studying to become a music teacher. Sol is also a skilled beadwork artist and young entrepreneur under Solecito Beads (@solecitobeads), which operates out of the Nuwu Art Studios. She is also a classically trained musician and performing artist. She has played the viola for over 10 years and has performed in the Las Vegas Academy Orchestra and UNLV Orchestra. Her performing arts skills shine in the cultural arts when she Jingle Dances in Pow Wow circles. She regularly gives land acknowledgements and performs at other events that promote healing through the arts. Sol is also a mentor to younger students and youth. She has volunteered at area schools in Las Vegas, teaching music and performance, and has taught Pow Wow dance to Native youth in her community with the Las Vegas Paiute Tribe. Sol also volunteers on a number of various projects in wider Las Vegas. Whether assisting with park clean ups or leading art workshops with the non-profit IndigenousAF, Sol is a valuable asset to the community.
