Bird songs are sung by various Indigenous groups in the Southwest from Southern Paiute, Cahuilla, Kumeyayy and many others. There is a song that describes the flame dancing on the mountain, as the sun rises. The flame is quickly turning into the sunrise and casting fiery colors across the landscape. As a younger person, I would look through the trailer window to see the sunrise, darker around the frame, but shining brightly through the window. As we wake to another day we are greeted with this constant: the sun rising, telling us that life moves forward.
