Water is Life is gouache on reeves paper and pulls together the love for basket weaving and my great-grandmothers basket patterns abstracted. Our Southern Paiute people are known for our weaving practices. The object in black and gray is a hand-woven Paiute water jug which I researched at the Lost City Museum, along with my family's basket collection. The work represents the past, the present, and the future. The past in honoring my peoples' traditions of weaving; the present in my pursuit of knowledge in carrying on traditions of weaving and art; the future in creating a work that will be a message to our descendents and the importance of water as our life giver.
